Property Week: Development of Royal Pier aims to turn it into a destination of choice

The former landmark will form the centrepiece of a major regeneration.

When Southampton’s Royal Pier was almost completely destroyed by a fire in the early 1990s, no one then thought that the remains of the structure would rust and rot away during the years of inertia that followed.

Now, just over two decades after the devastating blaze, the elegant former landmark is edging ever closer to a rebirth.

The Royal Pier, considered the jewel in the crown of the key sites that Southampton City Council has identified as crucial to the regeneration of the city, is about to be transformed into a £600m-plus mixed-use scheme, by the GB Strategic Land Fund.
