Insider Media: Plans in for £400m Royal Pier Scheme

Plans to revamp Southampton's waterfront with a major mixed-use scheme have taken a leap forward with a planning application for the £400m development being submitted.

The Royal Pier Waterfront development will include more than 700 new apartments, a 500,000 sq ft office development, up to 50 new shops, and waterside restaurants, cafes and bars.

It will also incorporate a 250-bed hotel and a large casino, subject to licensing, with leisure and entertainment facilities.

The vision for the development promises "to deliver the most atmospheric urban waterfront experience on the South Coast" and will give "unprecedented access to the city's water-side" and celebrate its "unique heritage links with land, sea and sky".

The consultation period has begun for the latest plans to transform the crumbling site into a thriving £400million development with a casino, five-star hotel, gourmet market and hundreds of homes.

The firm set up a gallery of images at the Royal Thai Pier restaurant and bar to show residents their vision for the waterfront and had staff on hand to answer any questions or explain in depth what could become of the run-down pier if they are successful.
